Do you have a background in art history, have you worked at the intersection of art and science, or have experience with analyzing artistic practices through an interdisciplinary lens? If so, you might be the postdoc we are looking for!
The postdoc will be employed as part of the research project Food, fat and feces: Metabolism in contemporary bioart and beyond. The project is embedded in the Program for Metabolic Science in Culture at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research and Medical Museion.
Food, fat, and feces are taken as key foci for the project – they are key themes within art history, as well as being key ‘moments’ in metabolism when parts of the world are taken into the body, incorporated, transformed and excreted. The project asks what sort of readings might come about if one pays sustained attention to the metabolic qualities in artistic practices. It explores the potential of combining cultural and art historical analysis with a sustained attention to metabolic processes, as a means to develop both methodologies and analytical frameworks for studying metabolic science in culture. The postdoc will be responsible for running a artists’ study group on art and metabolism, setting up transdisciplinary workshops at Medical Museion, and contributing along with the PI, co-PI, and other colleagues, to publications and activities outlining the notion of a ‘metabolic humanities’.
The position is fully funded for 3 years, and is part of the CBMR International Postdoctoral Program www.cbmr.ku.dk/postdocprogram.
Eligibility: The CBMR International Postdoctoral Program is open for applicants that hold a PhD degree awarded from a university outside of Denmark, obtained before October 1, 2021. The program is also open for applicants with a Danish PhD degree who can document at least 12 months full-time research experience outside Denmark.
