Adam Bencard We are extremely happy to announce the final composition of our co-curatorial team. Following our open call we received 155 applications from an amazing variety of both Danish and international scientists, artists, curators, chefs, designers, philosophers, science studies scholars, poets, authors and many more. Based on the overwhelming response, it was a long process to choose the applicants we thought would help us make the best exhibition, and to select a group who complemented our internal team and each other.
We are grateful to all the applicants for the time and effort put into their applications, and for challenging us to see this topic in a kaleidoscope of different ways. And to the jury, for their indefatigable journey through a box of paper and a forest of competing considerations as to what a good co-curator might be.
Without further ado, the co-curatorial team will consist of:
Naja Ryde Ankarfeldt
Working between art and science, Naja Ryde Ankarfeldt investigates the repetitive forms of living systems. The artists ongoing research is focused on ecological thinking and communicated through aesthetic experiences using various materials and media. She graduated from Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten, The Hague in 2015 and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Design, 2013. Some of her work can be seen here.
Marie Balslev Backe
Marie Balslev Backe completed her Ph.D. at the Institute for Biomedicine, University of Copenhagen, in 2015. In her Ph.D. she examined epigenetic mechanisms related to the development of diabetes. Currently she is employed at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, University of Copenhagen, where she does research on how defects in hormone release influences metabolism via the brain and endocrine organs like the pancreas.
Christian Bache Billesbølle
Christian Bache Billesbølle is a postdoctoral research scientist at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen. My research interest is in understanding the role of protein-interaction networks in signaling by neurotransmitter-sensing receptors, with a particular focus on identification of novel pharmacological targets. I have a background in Pharmacy, Human Biology, and Molecular Pharmacology.
Mogens Jacobsen
Mogens Jacobsen is a Danish artist working with reactive artifacts and installations. In 1992 he embraced the internet as a new and open platform and founded the Danish net.art groups Artnode. In 2000 Jacobsen changed focus, moving away from screen-based works and towards critical objects and networked installations often humorous in tone.
Guston Sondin-Kung
Guston Sondin-Kung is a visual artist born in the USA and currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark. He works in a project-based manner primarily in the mediums of film/video, installation and writing. His artwork explores how historical narratives, memory, and ideology are constructed.
Mind the Gut is an interdisciplinary and experimental exhibition project, and winner of the Bikubenfonden Vision 2015 award. It is set to open in the fall of 2017. You can read more about the project here and follow the work of the curatorial team here.
